The 2010 Team USA is coming to Topps and Bowman line

Topps released a press release about the players that will be included in Bowman, and Topps Chrome and other products through their agreement with Team USA. It should be interesting because the original image released seems to hint that the one per case hit in Topps Chrome this year may not even be a chrome autograph. It may be a paper stock one akin to the AFLAC auto’s. This should be interesting to see how it plays out. On a personal note, I am happy to see a good friend of mine, and a great ball player Jason Esposito highlighted by Topps in their press release.

FIND NEXT YEAR’S DRAFT PICKS NOW…IN 2010 BOWMAN/TOPPS PRODUCTS

Both ESPN and MLB.com recently listed their top picks for the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft and believe it or not, you can find cards of these players this year… in 2010 Bowman/Topps Products. Collectors can find the top draft picks (as members of the 2010 USA Baseball National Teams) in 2010 Topps Chrome, 2010 Bowman Chrome, 2010 Bowman Platinum and 2010 Bowman Sterling. In addition, 2010 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects will include players from the 16 & Under team (stars of future drafts).

2010 Bowman Sterling First Look

We got the first images of 2010 Bowman Sterling from Beckett Blog today and they look great. This is always a popular product with prospectors, and this years set looks as nice as any edition. With the Team USA additions this year this set could be huge. Strasburg, Heyward, and all the rookies you should expect from this seasons crop will be included as well as signees such as Kolbrin Vitek, Miguel Sano and more will be in the product as well.

Strasburg to the DL, How Much Impact on Future Products?

On the day that news broke that Stephen Strasburg Allen & Ginter autographedcards had gone live on Ebay, we also got the news that the Nationals Phenom was going on the DL for the second time in a month. The Baseball card industy has been booming over the last year due to the success of Strasburg. 2010 Bowman exploded on the secondary market with the inclusion of a chrome Strasburg, and an autographed base card of him. We have seen huge bumps in the prices of Topps Triple Threads, Topps Chrome, and Allen and Ginter due to the inclusion of the former #1 pick in the product.

But now that he is on the DL for a second time, will people be more cautious? Will the demand of the yet to be released products such as Topps Chrome, or Triple Threads wain? Was this all inevitable due to oversaturation of his autograph in one release calendar? We have seen in the past rookies prices drop as more and more autographed cards were released, but at the same time there were more released due to competition in the Baseball card market.

We are in a different world even from a few years ago when Gordon Beckham, or Evan Longoria were the new hot superstars. You can choose what varation of Topps products you want of him, but you don’t have the choice of a SP, SPX, Goudey, Masterpieces or any other card that Upper Deck may have released of him or any current rookie.

It’s a new world collection wise, and the biggest question I am left with is “Will Strasburg being hurt scare away collectors/investors, or does the lack of competition do it more?” Oh yeah, and the bad luck timing award goes to Razor Rookie Rewind, which releases next week and includes the 2010 Bowman Chrome Superfractor of Stephen Strasburg that previously sold for over 20K.

Unnumbered rare Topps Parallels hit Ebay

We have seen plenty of backdoored cards hit the market over the years. From the Pinnacle 1997 Mirror Golds up to the recent wave of unnumbered Tim Lincecum 2007 Bowman Chrome Fake autographed refractors, but the auctions today may be a first.

A wave of unnumbered 2009 Bowman Red hit Ebay and could cause quite the stir. These are really the first examples of 1/1 cards being backdoored in bulk, in some cases dozens were released. We have heard stories over the last few years of Topps employees leaving, and maybe that is the cause of why cards such as this are surfacing. The biggest question with this is will we see more in the near future? If someone surfaces with a pile of unnumbered Superfractors how damaging would that be to the hobby?

It is a hobby to many, but when you deal with the value levels on 1/1 cards, it can become a business. It will be very interesting to see how this develops.

2010 BCDP : Who do you want to see?

2010 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks and Prospects is coming sooner and sooner by the date. We now know who is eligible to be in the product due to the signing deadline passing, so I started a discussion on FCB asking who do you want to see in 2010 BCDP?

My choices were very biased with guys I had seen in the Cape League, and I left out the Red Sox guys that we had already seen on the sell sheet and Jake Skole. Leave a comment here, or feel free to chat it up on FCB about it.

This thread on FCB has the first details on the 2010 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks and Prospects Checklist. This is a very barebone skeleton of what the checklist should look like. Names like Jake Skole, Kolbrin Vitek, and Bryce Brentz highlight the checklist so far.

The biggest draw right now will be the Stephen Strasburg autographed RC logo card. But with the signing deadline right around the corner this all is very subject to change.

Strasburg Red Bowman Auto 1/1 is on the Bay

Stephen Strasburg Bowman Red 1/1 has surfaced on EBay. That most valuable card left, and arguably Stephen Strasburg’s best card is listed with a 50K buy it now. Many people have argued whether this or the Superfractor that sold for over 16,000 and received national media attention are his best card.

Regardless after his spectacular debut against the Pirates, and with him starting tomorrow vs the Cleveland Indians the roof on this card is higher than ever. Where will this sell for? We hopefully will know soon.

Stephen Strasburg Superfractor Mania!

From ESPN to NESN to Local News everyone is talking about the Stephen Strasburg 2010 Bowman Superfractor that is now over $16,000.00. Many expect it to jump at the end, some expect our friend Wossamottau to swoop in and take it at the end (Not going to happen).

Many are considering this the biggest modern sale of a Baseball card, where as the other sports had the Exquisite/The Cup product at hundreds of dollars a pack producing thousands of dollar hits. Strasburg has been demolishing AAA Baseball. Every stop of his team is an event, and according to Syracuse Chiefs Public Relation Spokesperson Mike Couzens, Strasburg has been accomidating fans where ever he goes with autographs.

But with all the stir this card has caused there is still an autographed 1/1 out there, plus Strasburg will be called up soon enough and then we can guarentee he will be in every single Topps product at that point. So is this a super foolish investment, or is it a great thing for the hobby. The Superfractor name is on the news, and more people are looking at our hobby because of this pull and sale, so I can never say that is a bad thing.

One huge positive that I see is that the hobby community should hopefully get a boost from this sale as a FreedomCardBoard.com member pulled the card and the site has been publicized across many media outlets. Will this card bring the hobby back to even half of what it used to be? Will kids be going out looking for a Strasburg base rookie like I saught out Mark McGwire back in 1987? The national, no pun intended, spotlight is on you Topps! You have been handed the ball, now whether you take it and run with it or fumble this great press away is up to you!

One question I am left with is if Strasburg is going this high, how much should Lincecum command at this point? Ehh, either way our friend out west is not selling it.

I had been bugging him since April to get some images of his collection to share with readers. Bowman Sterling is Live and smoking!

Bowman Sterling has hit the streets and we have already seen some amazing pulls come out of it. Pretty much every Red Refractor I wanted has been pulled. Lars Anderson is currently on EBay and way out of my price range. Andrew from All In Cards did a live break on UStream this evening of two cases and this product looks loaded. Rumors say that 2009 Sterling will be all on card autos, which if it continues the quality that we have seen this year should be a huge hit.
