Strasburg to the DL, How Much Impact on Future Products?
On the day that news broke that Stephen Strasburg Allen & Ginter autographedcards had gone live on Ebay, we also got the news that the Nationals Phenom was going on the DL for the second time in a month. The Baseball card industy has been booming over the last year due to the success of Strasburg. 2010 Bowman exploded on the secondary market with the inclusion of a chrome Strasburg, and an autographed base card of him. We have seen huge bumps in the prices of Topps Triple Threads, Topps Chrome, and Allen and Ginter due to the inclusion of the former #1 pick in the product. Read more
Unnumbered rare Topps Parallels hit Ebay
We have seen plenty of backdoored cards hit the market over the years. From the Pinnacle 1997 Mirror Golds up to the recent wave of unnumbered Tim Lincecum 2007 Bowman Chrome Fake autographed refractors, but the auctions today may be a first.
A wave of unnumbered 2009 Bowman Red hit Ebay and could cause quite the stir. These are really the first examples of 1/1 cards being backdoored in bulk, in some cases dozens were released. We have heard stories over the last few years of Topps employees leaving, and maybe that is the cause of why cards such as this are surfacing. The biggest question with this is will we see more in the near future? If someone surfaces with a pile of unnumbered Superfractors how damaging would that be to the hobby?
It is a hobby to many, but when you deal with the value levels on 1/1 cards, it can become a business. It will be very interesting to see how this develops.
Upper Deck supports Hobby with Volunteer Alliance
Last month Upper Deck unveiled an exciting new initiative designed to further engage the company’s loyal collector base. The “Upper Deck Volunteer Alliance” is a program free of charge that’s open to collectors from around the world that enables them to earn Upper Deck merchandise simply by helping the company promote the hobby. Upper Deck has been pleasantly surprised by the response it has gotten from collectors looking to help share the fun of collecting trading cards. Read more
The Strasburg 1/1 from Famous Fabrics has hit!
One of, if not the top hit out of Famous Fabrics has surfaced on EBay. TheStephen Strasburg USA Hat Logo 1/1 has been listed at a $10,000 Buy it Now. His stuff is surfacing more and more rapidly, and for an unlicensed card this is definitely one of the nicest looking cards ever produced.
How high do you think this card will end at?
From Wossa’s Vault – Mike Stanton 1/1
From time to time we want to bring a scan of a card from Wossamottau’s vault that otherwise would never see the light of day. This card is, as far as we know, the best 1/1 of the Florida Marlins Phenom that is tearing up the MILB, as we speak to have surfaced. So far no one has seen the Superfractor, and it has not hit Ebay.

The Process of Making A Card – Part 1
So a lot of the cards I purchase are of former members of the Falmouth Commodores. This summer how ever working with the team and Mike from RedBlackRed.com , we produced a completely original team set of the 2009 Falmouth Commodores. There had only been two team sets of my team in the past, but we were assured that it would be fine for us to produce one this year. The 2006 set included newest Toronto Blue Jay Brett Wallace.
This year we had a few players who had previously had either AFLAC cards (Hunter Morris, Evan Danielli) or cards in the Upper Deck releases of Team USA sets (Hunter Morris, Cecil Tanner), but for many of them this was an opportunity to have their very first baseball card.
The first thing I wanted to make sure we did, and did well was pick out the best photographs of the players possible. Once those were picked out after a day or so Mike got back to me with the proof sheet that will be at the bottom of the various possible designs. You can see the mock ups and the raw image we used. We are going to end this post here, but this will be a continuing series about the production of my first card set.
Sharing some of my current pick ups and thoughts….
I figure occasionally I should share cards that I actually buy, I’d rather be someone who is actively buying things that I like, instead of just critiquing and bashing. I am getting in a decent bit in the upcoming week from the recent draft products and figured I would critique them as I get in, and do a small write up on them.

SP Signature and Game Used NBA Images
I got in a box of 2009 SP Signature and 2 packs of SP Game Used Basketball from Upper Deck this week. These sets may be considered by some a sticker and game used dumping grounds for Upper Deck, but I got a few cool cards and even hit my first ever Michael Jordan game jersey card.
Got some boxes to review tonight
I got in a box of 2009 Topps Chrome Baseball, 2009 Topps Football, and 2009 Topps ‘48 Bowman Basketball in to review tonight. We should be breaking live on UStream and will be posting scans either tonight or tomorrow on the site.
