The Process of Making A Card – Part 1
So a lot of the cards I purchase are of former members of the Falmouth Commodores. This summer how ever working with the team and Mike from RedBlackRed.com , we produced a completely original team set of the 2009 Falmouth Commodores. There had only been two team sets of my team in the past, but we were assured that it would be fine for us to produce one this year. The 2006 set included newest Toronto Blue Jay Brett Wallace.
This year we had a few players who had previously had either AFLAC cards (Hunter Morris, Evan Danielli) or cards in the Upper Deck releases of Team USA sets (Hunter Morris, Cecil Tanner), but for many of them this was an opportunity to have their very first baseball card.
The first thing I wanted to make sure we did, and did well was pick out the best photographs of the players possible. Once those were picked out after a day or so Mike got back to me with the proof sheet that will be at the bottom of the various possible designs. You can see the mock ups and the raw image we used. We are going to end this post here, but this will be a continuing series about the production of my first card set.
Sharing some of my current pick ups and thoughts….
I figure occasionally I should share cards that I actually buy, I’d rather be someone who is actively buying things that I like, instead of just critiquing and bashing. I am getting in a decent bit in the upcoming week from the recent draft products and figured I would critique them as I get in, and do a small write up on them.

Elite Extra Edition is coming back!!
As we discussed with Scott Prusha and Mike Payne at the National, Elite Extra Edition will be returning in 2009 to Baseball. The images will follow below and hopefully soon we will have a checklist and more from Panini on this exciting product.
SP Signature and Game Used NBA Images
I got in a box of 2009 SP Signature and 2 packs of SP Game Used Basketball from Upper Deck this week. These sets may be considered by some a sticker and game used dumping grounds for Upper Deck, but I got a few cool cards and even hit my first ever Michael Jordan game jersey card.
Got some boxes to review tonight
I got in a box of 2009 Topps Chrome Baseball, 2009 Topps Football, and 2009 Topps ‘48 Bowman Basketball in to review tonight. We should be breaking live on UStream and will be posting scans either tonight or tomorrow on the site.
Ehh Mistakes Happen….
I know a lot of bloggers when they see a mistake by a company feel that it is their call to arms and they have to speak of how it could be the death of the hobby. I got this card this weekend from Kevin Cormier after he posted about it on FreedomCardBoard.com.

Hunter Morris was on my team in the Cape League and I’ve ammassed a decent collection of his stuff. I have even given him some of his cards for himself and his family since they had no clue how many different cards he already had between 2007 USA, 2009 USA and 2009 Upper Deck Series II.
But a few of these errors have popped up on Ebay. If you search Stephen Strasburg you will find variations such as cards numbered 21/20. While some would like to hang companies for mistakes and prattle on about the end of the hobby, I just look at it as mistakes happen. I remember plenty of errors as a kid, or blank back cards. Heck I even got cards from Topps this year with no foil on them.
It won’t add value to the card, but it sure is something that is interesting as a player collector to get.
My National View in Pictures
I went to the National last week, we interviewed TONS of guests, and streamed it all live via FreedomCardBoard.com and Ustream.tv. I got a lot graded and bought a few cards. I figured I would post some of Brian Lanning’s images, and scans of stuff that I got at the show. Hope everyone enjoys!!

The Card Podcast sponsors Cape League Team
I haven’t been updating as much as we would like lately, but I have been busy with quite a few things on our plate. I have been in charge of archiving memorabilia, and conducting signings with the teams players, and if any are around, Alumni. I’ve been able to catch some of the most pure baseball in the nation this summer, and sat down with some great players. I figured I would start to try to share a little more of my experiences. Hope people enjoy.
