Upper Deck releases statement on settlement with MLBP
Upper Deck released a statement on their settlement with MLBP yesterday. The biggest things coming out of the statement are that there is no recall, no matter what anyone at a card show says, on 2009 Signature Stars, Ultimate Baseball or 2010 Series One. The statement includes a quote from Richard McWilliams on the future of Upper Deck Baseball. Read more
How many autographs did USA players sign?
Check out the two scans I got from Chad Bettis USA cards this year. I don’t even want to know how many stickers he must have signed for his sig to change this much during it. I like the triple jerseys, but would have preferred the traps over stickers as in the past USA products.

Upper Deck addresses SP’s in recent products
Upper Deck sent out a message today to address some questions on some new cards that were released in SP Authentic Baseball. When Mark Buehrle threw his perfect game on July 23 this year, Upper Deck owner Richard McWilliam said he wanted to do a card to commemorate that. The UD Baseball team quickly scampered to see what we could do to get it done and into a product this season. They also captured a card of the first pitch between Obama and Pujols at the All-Star Game in St. Louis. These two cards were inserted in very limited quantities into 2009 MLB Ballpark Collection.

As we saw Jeter climbing up the All-Time Yankee Hit List, we felt it would be important to chronicle that as well so another card was produced quickly and inserted in very limited quantities in 2009 MLB SP Authentic which released this week. They sent an image of the front and back of the Jeter card that commemorates him surpassing Lou Gehrig as the all-time Yankee Hit King.
Should something unique happen this postseason, Upper Deck may release more of these cards inserted in 2009 Ultimate Collection Baseball releasing later on this year. Below is a checklist of these cards:
SP1 – Mark Buehrle’s Perfect Game’
SP2 – 1st Pitch at All-Star Game between Obama and Pujols
SP3 – Derek Jeter – Yankees All-Time Hit King

Upper Deck adds Roberto Clemente
Latin Legend Roberto Clemente Added to the Upper Deck Baseball Line-up for 2009 and Beyond
Upper Deck will include game-used memorabilia and cut signature cards of the deceased Pirates superstar in 2009 and 2010 baseball releases
Carlsbad, CA (September 1, 2009) – For many people, especially in Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente was more than just a MVP and Hall-of-Famer, he was a hero. In his eighteen seasons with Pittsburgh he was a twelve time All-Star, but it was his constant charity work with the underprivileged in developing countries and service with the United States Marine Corps Reserves that helped add to his legend.
Upper Deck is proud to have reached a deal with the estate of Roberto Clemente to provide collectors and sports fans around the world with rare collectible trading cards of this inspirational star. Clemente cards will begin appearing this December in Upper Deck’s 2009 Ultimate Collection Baseball. For 2010, Clemente will appear in at least six of the Upper Deck’s baseball releases.
“In looking at names of players to add to our future products, Roberto Clemente is a name that we’re thrilled about bringing to our customers,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck brand manager for baseball. “He is a legend in every sense of the word and we anticipate collectors will be ecstatic if they find his cards in Upper Deck Baseball products in 2009 and 2010.”
