It’s Nice To See One of Your Guys Make Good

I hate buying pitching rookies, that is unless they are in the Red Sox Organization. Michael Bowden was one of the first Red Sox pitchers I tried to hunt down some of his bigger cards, not just the base rookies. This weekend he came in on national television against the Yankees, and I couldn’t have been happier with the results.

Photobucket I met Michael at the Sox New Stars for Young Stars event. I brought along his Bowman Sterling Red 1/1 that I had bought the day before his MLB Debut last year. I figured that would be a pretty cool picture to have.

I figured the two elements would combine for something you rarely if ever see, a) a player pictured on a card with their card and b) that card being a 1 of 1 rookie that arguably the players best card. Michael instantly recognized the card as being what it was, and later on in the day we ended up talking over me picking it up. He said how he had thought about grabbing it, but it was gone when he was going to, and how I made a good investment.

I thought that was a great thing having a player saying you made a good investment in them, and it didn’t come across as cocky or anything, but some one who was confident, but still very hopeful in his career.

This weekend Michael came in against the hated New York Yankees on a nationally televised game on ESPN, he pitched two perfect innings with two strike outs, including Derek Jeter. This article quotes Michael as saying “That’s pretty cool. I struck out Derek Jeter.”

I think I did make a pretty good investment!

I agree Michael is a really cool guy, and autographed a ball for my daughter earlier this year.
    Very nice post.
